About Mental Health at Work

Mental Health at Work is a Community Interest Company (CIC) with a mission to improve working lives by influencing attitudes and behaviours towards mental health within the workplace. We are a subsidiary of the Mental Health Foundation. We deliver focused and customised learning and development solutions for organisations to help them to normalise conversations around mental health within workplaces. In the last 12 months alone, we have reached almost 6,000 people within 65 organisations, across a range of industries.

We are now looking to recruit a Business Development Manager, reporting into the Head of Sales, to help us further grow our business alongside an established Business Development Team. This is an exciting opportunity, in an expanding social enterprise, which will have a significant impact on attitudes and behaviour around mental health in organisations across all industry sectors.

The Role

 As BDM you will be delivering against our strategy by targeting and qualifying new prospects in the corporate workspace and converting them to clients of Mental Health at Work. You will be driving and supporting opportunities that involve a range of services which will include tailored mental health programmes led by facilitated training, advisory and other support services.

You will be able to connect with people in a personable and professional manner, to gain credibility with senior individuals within a variety of organisations including large, blue-chip multinational organisations.

Responsibilities:

  • You will need to align to our mission and values whilst being authentic in your approach
  • Develop and grow a pipeline of relevant business opportunities in line with your set targets
  • Create and action highly targeted, personalised and innovative outreach campaigns that address organisational mental health challenges. This includes, but is not limited to cold calls, emails and events
  • Grow and nurture the clients that you win by building relationships and identifying further business opportunities
  • Ensure that new clients become lasting partners within the business by conducting regular account reviews and feedback sessions
  • Create close working relationships as part of a small, committed team, within a social enterprise
  • Proficiently use our CRM platform and to ensure that we leverage our network of contacts and nurture existing accounts
  • Effectively and efficiently manage your own time to ensure that all opportunities are maximised
  • Collaborate and form good working relationships within both the sales team and operations team so that new clients are onboarded seamlessly
  • Ensure attention to detail when developing tailored proposals that will vary by client
  • Help shape the future of Mental Health at Work by engaging in internal meetings and suggesting process and product enhancements/improvements
  • Become an expert advisor on workplace mental health and utilise research in your industry fields to ultimately support our mission to have a positive impact on working lives by influencing attitudes and behaviours towards mental health

Experience and Skills Required:

  • Prior experience as a Business Development Manager or Sales Representative in a corporate environment, with a proven track record of exceeding personal targets
  • Experience of navigating long, complex sales cycles where multiple stakeholder engagement is required
  • Competent and comfortable with outbound prospecting via phone, email and Teams
  • Strong commercial acumen when identifying, developing and following through on business opportunities
  • Confident demeanour which projects knowledge and professionalism. The right candidate will be an articulate communicator with the ability to challenge the status quo when speaking to senior stakeholders
  • Experience in developing tailored and compelling proposals for prospects and clients, which will drive business
  • Competence in using PowerPoint, Word and Excel for business purposes.
  • Strong experience in maintaining prospect and client information on CRM platforms such as Salesforce.com and operate with rigour in line with internal processes
  • Self-motivated, tenacious, who thrives in autonomy to manage competing priorities and work to timeframes required
  • Passionate about driving business forward to deliver a mission to improve working lives by influencing attitudes and behaviours towards mental health in workplaces
  • A strong interest in bringing effective and lasting change in the way mental health is managed within organisations
  • Comfortable in navigating the unknown and working in a fast paced constantly changing environment that is growing rapidly

Life at Mental Health at Work

This role is currently home based, with some travel to meet clients, mainly, but not exclusively around the London area. You should be based within commutable distance to London and willing to travel to a central London office location as required.

  • Salary £30,900 pa (FTE Equivalent for 37.5hrs) rising to £33,990 pa after 6 months probation, plus sales commission (uncapped, OTE Year 1 £40k, Year 2 £58k for FTE)
  • We will be happy to consider applicants looking for part-time opportunities and/or flexible working arrangements. Please note that for this role to be successful, it is for a minimum 30-hour week.
  • The role will be home based, but you will be required to travel to our London office and other locations for team meetings and development days as required
  • Employees have 25 days holiday (Pro-rated FTE), which they are encouraged to take, plus bank holidays and additional office closure during Christmas and New Year – an extra 8 days paid leave.
  • Contributory pension scheme: Employer’s contributions 3% (employee contributions 5%), with Aviva
  • Employee Assistance Programme through Health Assured for the employee and immediate family
  • On occasions you will be required to work outside your normal hours, depending on the demands of the client

What to expect next:

Successful candidates will be invited to a three stage recruitment process. The first stage will be a competency based interview using our values as a structure in addition to questions to understand you, your experience and your skills better. For the second stage, you will then be asked to complete a business proposal and possibly some further exercises. This will likely be held in person in London. The final stage will be an interview with the MD. We would encourage candidates to come prepared to ask us questions they are curious about, as it will be very much a two-way conversation.
