Mental Health First Aid Champion course

The MHFA England Champion course, available through MHaW, is a practical skills and knowledge course applicable to your own and others’ mental health support.  

About the MHFA Champion Course

This 1-day course offers participants the opportunity to:

  • Recognise the main signs and symptoms of common mental health issues
  • Provide initial support to guide a person towards appropriate professional help
  • Be mindful of your own wellbeing
  • Develop an understanding of how you can create and maintain a healthier workforce or community 

Completing this course not only gives you personal knowledge and skills to enrich your own mental health and wellbeing, but is a fantastic skill to support others within your organisation or personal life.

An investment in this course will give you the confidence in your own ability to support others in your team as well as practical tips and tools for self-care and proactive wellbeing.

Becoming a MHFAid Champion allows you to join a growing MHFA England trained network and confidently fulfil a role as a Mental Health Champion in your organisation.

Course Format

  • 1 day (6 teaching hours) delivered either in person, or virtually
  • Includes a combination of presentation slides, group discussions, and interactive workshop activities
  • Learning takes place through a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities
  • We limit numbers to 16 people per course so that the instructor can keep people safe and supported while they learn

Course Outcomes

Everyone who completes the course gets:

  • A certificate of attendance to say they are an MHFA Champion
  • A manual to refer to whenever they need it
  • A quick reference card for the Mental Health First Aid action plan
  • A workbook including a helpful toolkit to support their own mental health
